LAIE, Hawaii --- California Baptist University never found its rhythm Saturday night, closing the team's third straight road match in Hawaii with a 3-0 loss to No. 5 BYU-Hawaii.
The Lancers fell 25-20, 25-18, 25-21 to the Seasiders to move to 14-7 overall, 11-2 PacWest on the year. BYUH moves to 15-1, 10-1.
CBU never got its trademark block going in the match as the Seasiders kept the visitors off balance all night.
The Lancers, who lead the PacWest in blocking, had just one block through the first two games as they fell behind 2-0.
A 7-2 run early in the opening game gave the Seasiders a 12-7 lead that they would carry to the first set win and a 6-1 lead at nearly the same point in the second again gave BYUH a lead CBU couldn't overcome.
The Lancers again fell behind early in the third, but went on a 5-1 run to cut the deficit to one at 10-9. The momentum wouldn't keep, however, as a BYUH block and two unforced errors gave the Seasiders a 14-10 advantage.
CBU climbed back in it later in the third, evening the game at 17-17 on a Jelena Dragovic ace. The momentum was short-lived, however, as a pair of calls went the Seasiders' way, giving the home team a 20-18 advantage. The lead would only grow through the finale.
The Lancers managed just four blocks in the match and hit .209.
BYUH's Shih Ting Chen led all players with 22 kills and Ying Chun Chen posted 38 assists in the match.
CBU was led by Kim McCalmont with 13 kills and Katie Rotondo posted 13 digs.
