JOPLIN, Mo. — Continuing to strive forward as a top Division II program, California Baptist University made progress by qualifying as a team for the first time for the NCAA Division II championship meet.
"It was a good learning experience for the girls," Coach Ben Gall said. "We are returning mostly everyone for the team next year so hopefully they can learn from this and expect to be here at this competition for the coming years."
Caroline Barkechir, who competed as the only female individual for CBU in last year's NCAA DII championship, led the team to a 26th place finish. Barkechir finished individually with a time of 22 minutes, 24 seconds to come in 120th place with 247 total runners competing.
Berenice Cleyet-Merle came in second for the Lancers and 144th overall, with a time of 22:39.9. Claire Rainey came in immediately after placing 146th overall with a time of 22:40.7. Alana Enabnit (22:46.4, 157th place), Kim Rabenstein (22:49, 163rd place), Katie Deimling (22:50.7, 166th place) and freshman Emeline Delanis (23:11, 190th place) rounded off the the Lancers with respectable runs.
After qualifying for the first time as a team for the final meet of the year and reaching new heights and countless achievements, such as the PacWest Championship, CBU can be proud of its efforts this season.
Next year, the Lancers will look to come out stronger than ever.
