INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Going into the final day of the NCAA Division II with a top-10 standing, No. 16-ranked California Baptist University looked to keep its placing.
The Lancers did just that, finishing in 10th with a score of 171.5. Queens took the team championship with 433.5 points over the four days.
"It was a great meet overall," said head coach Rick Rowland. "Our goal was a top-10 finish and we did that after taking 20th last year. I'm very happy with progression in the program. We have some big shoes to fill, but hope to come back next year and improve again."
Nikolay Klepikov grabbed All-American honors on the day, finishing the 200-yard breast in one minute, 56.32 seconds. After picking up a seventh seed in the prelims, Klepikov picked up his pace to shave almost two full seconds off his time.
Josh Hanson kept his strong swimming in the 200-yard back to finish ninth overall with a time of 1:45.34. He just missed the championship heat in the prelims, but won his consolation heat to earn himself All-American honorable mention.
The junior also grabbed honorable mention in the 400-yard free relay with the help of Chaffin Blake, Alexis Ohmar and Bernardo Valentim. The quartet clocked in at 3:02.20.
Robert Griffith and Elijah Barrows finished back-to-back in the 1650-yard free, with both earning All-American honorable mention recognition. Griffith took ninth in the event, touching in 15:34.09 — almost two seconds off his prelim time. Barrows followed with a time of 15:38.32.
