
Taking Down Academic Awards

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – After being named a top-five team in the NCAA Division II academically with a 3.323 team grade-point average, California Baptist University knew there were some academic awards awaiting its wrestlers from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
Five wrestlers received RMAC Academic honors Tuesday afternoon, with two first-teamers and three more on the honor roll. Zachary McKenna and Alec Smith were both named to the all-academic first team, while Alex Anunciation, Harlan Kistler and Daniel Urban were voted to the honor roll.
To qualify for the RMAC academic awards, student-athletes needed to maintain a GPA of 3.30 or better and be a starter or reserve on their team. They also needed to have completed at least two consecutive semesters at their current institution.
McKenna, a senior kinesiology major, finished out the year as the team's 133-pound starter in duals. Smith, a junior criminal justice major, went 16-11 and starting all but one dual for the Lancers at 165 pounds. Urban, a junior aviation management major, went 4-3 at 174. Kistler, who studies criminal justice, while going 9-5 as a 184-pounder. He appeared in the Menlo Invite, Rocky Mountain Collegiate Open and California Collegiate Open, winning at least two matches each time, winning the Menlo Invite title. As a junior business administration major, Anunciation went 11-7 on the mat, including a 7-2 record at 149 pounds.
