IRVINE, Calif. — As the season winds down for California Baptist University, the Lancers seem more determined than ever to compete in their first-ever NCAA Division II Championship, continuing to run faster and faster each week.
Â
Three Lancers ran personal best times this weekend at the Steve Scott Invitational, hosted by UC Irvine, with Valentin Robert and Ken Kipkorir grabbing them in the 1500-meter Saturday. Robert crossed the line in three minutes and 54.86 seconds, putting himself in the top-10 all-time performance list in program history, and Kipkorir finished in 4:00.01.
Â
Friday night, Bruk Assefa was the lone Lancer to compete at the Anteaters' invitational, taking on the 3000-meter steeplechase. The junior not only set a personal-best time of 9:31.28, he did so by shaving 11 seconds off his previous time to put him on the all-time top-10 list in CBU history.
"It was a great weekend for us," said head coach Ben Gall. "We had a lot of personal records and strong performances."
The Lancers will rest up this week with one last competition on the docket before the championship meet. CBU looks to run hard next weekend at the Occidental Invitational, hoping to either finish the season strong or move up in the nationals list to qualify for the championships.
