LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Just two days earlier, California Baptist University battled Cal State Northridge in its MPSF opener. It was an even closer contest Friday at third-ranked Long Beach State.
The Lancers forced a tie at a set apiece, but fell in four to the 49ers, 25-16, 22-25, 25-12, 25-18. Middle blockers Enrique de Diego Garcia and Caleb Miller had six and four kills with no errors, respectively, while Miller also had two blocks. Arturo Iglesias finished with 23 assists and eight digs. Rohit Paul ended up with a team-high 10 digs and two aces for the Lancers.
CBU slipped to 3-2, 0-2 in MPSF this year; LBSU improve to 4-0, 1-0. The Lancers excelled in the second set, jumping out to a 14-8 lead after a kill and ace from Roy Powell. An attack error and Luis Palos kill gave CBU a 23-18 lead. A service error and kill from Powell tied the match at a set apiece for the Lancers, 25-22.
Now, CBU puts its focus to its home opener against No. 2 UCLA on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
