PALO ALTO, Calif. — Unfortunate circumstances led to a thin squad for California Baptist University at Stanford on Saturday.
CBU lost 24-10, taking three forfeits due to recent injuries. Of the seven matches wrestled, the Lancers managed three wins, including one major decision.
The Lancers could not have asked for a better start as freshman 133-pound wrestler Anthony Racobaldo claimed a 16-12 win. Brady Bersano then earned a hard-fought 15-6 major decision at the 157-weight class.
Jake Waste (184) grabbed the Lancers' final individual win, beating Zach Nevills 2-0
"It could have been a close match if we had all of our guys wrestling," Coach Lennie Zalesky said. "We wrestled well and it's a performance to build upon."
Wrestling against Bakersfield and Stanford in dual meets and competing at the Cliff Keen and Midlands Tournaments bodes well for the Lancers, preparing them to face the toughest talent in NCAA Division II.
CBU heads next to the Nebraska-Kearney Duals where it will take on the best collegiate wrestling teams Division II has to offer. The duals will take place on Jan. 16th.
