Career Day for the Lancers
10/1/2016 12:08:00 PM | Men's Cross Country, Cross Country, Cross Country & Track
RESULTS
SACRAMENTO — For the first time this season, California Baptist University raced a full team but there was no lack of team chemistry or success.
The No. 25-ranked Lancers took fourth overall as a team at the Capital Cross Challenge 8K, hosted by NCAA Division I Sacramento State. CBU – which ranks sixth in the region – finished with 129 team points to take second out of all Division II teams, behind team champion Chico State – the top-ranked team in the West Region.
Valentin Robert led the Lancers with a top-10 individual placing, taking sixth overall out of 173 runners. The senior clocked in just under 24 minutes, crossing the finish line in career-best fashion in 23 minutes 59.8 seconds – which also happens to be the new CBU record.
After being named the PacWest Runner of the Week last week, Dennis Messmer followed with another strong race. He took 21st overall with a time of 24:31.7, also a career best. William Ernst was right on Messmer's tail, taking 23rd with another career-best time of 24:33.3.
It was a career day as more Lancers picked up more and more personal-bests. Mirco Zenzen (24:52.1), Michael Lowrie (24:57.1), Jayden Emerson (25:20.4) and James Atwell (25:20.4) all set new personal records for themselves.
Ken Kipkorir and Jonah Ross didn't break their personal bests, but still ran well and finished the 8K race in 25:00.8 and 25:20.1, respectively.
The Lancers return home to host the CBU Invitational on Oct. 7, gearing up for the PacWest Championship in Hilo, Hawaii, on Oct. 22.
