RESULTS
SAN DIEGO — California Baptist University continued to make steady strides as it looks to qualify runners for both the PacWest and NCAA Division II championship meets.
Anthony Lozano had a stellar night at the San Diego State Aztec Invitational Friday, automatically qualifying for the conference championship in the 1500-meter race. He crossed the finish line in three minutes, 52.32 seconds, just missing a conditional NCAA Division II mark by less than a second (3:51.68). It was also good for sixth place overall in the invite and puts him sixth in the CBU all-time record book.
Abdel El-Hajjami wasn't far behind Lozano, finishing in eighth with a time of 3:52.66, also well under the PacWest qualifying mark of 4:03.27. Fellow Frenchman Valentin Robert was just a few steps off El-Hajjami, clocking in at 3:53.69 for 10th place. It marked a personal-best for Robert, which is the seventh-fastest time in program history.
In the 3000-meter open, William Ernst also ran a personal best time, crossing the finish line in 8:52.31 for seventh place. Jonah Ross followed with a 9:08.75, also a personal record. Denis Messmer ran the invitational 3K and took eighth overall with a time of 8:34.97.
Jayden Emerson kept the trend of good performances with a 15:20.13 time in the 5000-meter invitational. It put him 10th overall and secured his spot at the PacWest championship meet – not bad for his first 5K event.
The Lancers head north for a pair of intense competitions at the SF State Distance Carnival and Stanford Invitational.
