Solid Day's Work

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Despite competing at two different meets, California Baptist University's runners put in a solid day of work Thursday.
Both Claire Rainey and Micaela Pulliam ran at the Bryan Clay Invitational, hosted by Azusa Pacific, while Katie Deimling competed at the Mt. SAC Relays.
In the 5,000-meter event, Rainey grabbed a personal-best time of 17 minutes, 46.79 seconds after shaving off almost four whole seconds from her previous time. It's the third-best time in CBU history and the fourth-best mark the PacWest has seen this year, guaranteeing a spot for Rainey at the conference championship.
Pulliam finished the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 12:36.01. The time should get her into the PacWest Championship Meet, which will be back at APU's track April 28-29, with her teammate Rainey.
Deimling — who has already qualified for both the conference meet and has a conditional qualifying mark for the NCAA Division II Championship — didn't better her time in the steeplechase, but ran a solid race at the Mt. SAC Relays at Cerritos College. She went up against a heat full of Division I athletes and clocked in at 10:58.18.
CBU continues at the Bryan Clay Invitational and Mt. SAC Relays Friday, while also running at the Beach Invitational at Long Beach State Friday and Saturday.
