BRADENTON, Fla. — For the second day in a row, California Baptist University produced an All-American in a French runner at the NCAA Division II Championship Meet in Bradenton, Fla.
Berenice Cleyet-Merle grabbed a program-best third-place finish in the 1500-meter championship Saturday evening to earn herself All-American distinction. She clocked in at four minutes and 23.87 seconds, just milliseconds off her school record of 4:23.24.
Veronica Hall also put in a strong finish, taking 11th overall with a time of 4:34.69.
The Lancer duo got off to a strong start and stayed in the middle of the pack for the first two laps. Heading into the bell lap, however, Cleyet-Merle started to make her move.
So did other runners, but Cleyet-Merle fought them off with a strong kick in the final 200 meters to secure her top-three finish.
Hall also battled until the end, denying Alyssa Lambert from Franklin Pearce any chance of beating her in the final stretch.
