PHOENIX, Ariz. – For the second time in 23 hours, California Baptist University found itself back in action at the Grand Canyon Invite Saturday after it hosted a dual on Friday.

Scott Tolman and Zach Parry were the big performers of the day for CBU, each winning and finishing runner-up in an individual event in the NCAA Division I competition. The Lancers fell to the University of Nevada Las Vegas, 181-117, and Grand Canyon, 186-109, as they dropped to 2-4 in dual action on the year. GCU improves to 5-1 and UNLV is 1-3.

Tolman was once again spectacular in the breaststroke events, winning the 200-yard breast in two minutes, 4.19 seconds and taking second in the 100 in 56.88. Parry stood tall on both boards, winning the 3-meter dive with 276.40 points and was second on the 1-meter board (276.50).

Robert Griffith and Brandon Schuster gave the Lancers runner-up finishes in the 1000 free (9:33.40) and 200 individual medley (1:55.83), respectively. Tanner Shore showed his versatility in freestyle events by taking third in both the 200 (1:43.32) and 500 frees (4:40.35).

Griffith took fourth in the 500 free (4:41.10) and Josh Fluetsch was fifth (4:43.33), after he took fourth in the 1000 free (9:50.96).

Garret Chew and Andrew Rotundo were top-five placers on both boards. Rotundo was third on the 1-meter (193.90) and fifth on the 3-meter (230.20), while Chew was fourth on the 3-meter (254.65) and 1-meter (186.95).

CBU showed tremendous depth in the 200 butterfly, with Quinn Birtles (1:54.93), Justin Quiroga (1:55.82), Chris Sands (1:57.67) and Christian Britton (1:59.73) taking fourth through seventh.

The Lancers take a week off to recover from two meets in as many days, returning home for a tri-dual with Concordia and Fresno Pacific on Saturday at noon.
