RIVERSIDE, Calif. – An individual win at the Western Washington Invite secured a PacWest Golfer of the Week award for California Baptist University's Yu Ling Lee two days later on Thursday.
Lee found herself tied for sixth place one round through the WWU Invite on Monday and then shot a tournament-best, three-under-par 70 to come back for medalist honors with a 145 (75-70), which ties for the 15th-lowest two-round tournament score in CBU history.
The Lancers won the event, as well, with a 598 (298-300). CBU has now won at least one tournament the last five years in a row and a total of 17 events over that span.
Lee's three-under 70 tied for the 11th best 18-hole score in Lancer lore, as well. The Taipei, Taiwan native got out to a scorching start on the day, with birdies on five of her first seven holes to play the front nine five-under. She birdied two more times on the back nine, while playing her final four holes one over.
It is the second time in four weeks CBU has produced the PacWest Golfer of the Week, with Samantha Martirez earning the award after the first week of the season.
It gives CBU a big shot of momentum heading into its fall-season finale, the Division I Cal Poly Invitational hosted by Cal Poly San Luis Obispo at the Cypress Ridge Golf Course in Arroyo Grande.
