Lancers Up To Five in Rankings

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – In each of the first five weeks of the 2017 season, California Baptist University has moved up in the American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division II polls. The Lancers checked in at fifth overall on Monday after they added two more wins to their total last week.
CBU faces Academy of Art in a PacWest match next on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Van Dyne Gym. The Lancers bring a 13-0, 5-0 in conference record into the week and have enjoyed a meteoric rise up the rankings – including one first-place vote – after were receiving votes in the top-25 poll in the preseason.
Defensively, the Lancers are atop Division II, as their .088 opposing hitting percentage (401 kills, 270 errors on 1,497 attempts) is the best in the division. CBU is a well-rounded team, with its .286 hitting percentage (616-196-1,467) ranking fourth overall, while its 2.68 blocks, 15.02 kills and 13.93 assists per set ranking third, sixth and seventh best in the division, respectively.
A number of individual Lancers are enjoying big years, as well. Setter Sydney Kralj averages 11.88 assists a set (487 overall), which ranks fifth in D-II. Yagoda Jedrzejczak puts down 1.22 blocks a set (50 overall) to sit 21st in Division II. Lauren Hackett's 4.60 points and 3.88 kills per set rank 24th and 42nd in D-II, respectively.
