SAN DIEGO — California Baptist University sped things up Friday at the San Diego State Invitational, with a lot of Lancers grabbing personal-best times.
Four Lancers shaved time off their previous best times in the 1500-meter event. Duncan Perillat took 15th in the invite race with a time of three minutes, 57.48 seconds, while Mirco Zenzen clocked in at 4:07.32, also a personal best.
William Ernst won the open race with a personal record of 3:54.93 – just about three seconds off an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time. Dennis Messmer wasn't far behind in third, 3:58.82 and Michael Lowrie took sixth in his best time of 4:00.54. Jayden Emerson rounded out the Lancers grabbing personal records and finished the race in 4:05.16 for 11th.
Anthony Avila led the day off in the 800m event, finishing in 1:58.60 seconds for ninth place overall.
Fresh off his personal best time in the 1500m, Perrilat ran the 3K in a personal-best time of 8:35.23 for second in the invite event, just missing out on first by just a 10th of a second. Ken Kipkorir joined Perrilat in the invite race, taking ninth in 8:46.22. Bismark Kipkilach and Jeremiah Gotts concluded the day with respective times of 9:01.18 (6th, personal best) and 9:06.14 (7th) in the 3K open race.
CBU will look to keep momentum rolling next week as it heads north to the Stanford Invitational and San Francisco State Distance Carnival.
