LA JOLLA, Calif. — After a majority of the team competed at the SF State Distance Carnival the day before, a few California Baptist University runners headed south to the UC San Diego California Collegiate Challenge.
Anthony Avila took ninth in the 800-meter race, clocking in at one minute, 57.58 seconds. It guarantees his spot in the PacWest Championship meet at the end of the month. James Atwell wasn't far behind his teammate, taking 18th with a time of 2:00.63.
Coming back from injury, Valentin Robert led the 1500m – his first race of the season – with a seventh-place performance in 3:57.99, edging out a USC runner in the process. Bismark Kipkilach crossed the finish line in 4:11.10, his personal best time and good for 16th place.
CBU heads to Claremont, Calif. next week, hoping to keep making improvements with the chance of competing at the NCAA Division II Championship Meet at the end of May.
