RIVERSIDE, Calif. – A record was set when the Golden Coast Conference released its All-Academic Team on Friday, as California Baptist University put 14 athletes on the team.
The Lancers' previous single-season record for All-Academic players in the GCC was 13 in 2014. CBU put 11 athletes on the GCC All-Academic Team the last three years in a row. In order to be selected, student-athletes had to carry a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher, played in at least 50 percent of their team's games and be classified as a full-time student who has completed a minimum of one semester at her institution.
Annie Eubanks earned the GCC All-Academic award for the fourth year in a row, while junior Lizette Perez has now made the team all three seasons. Amy Bideshi, Allie Coleman, Madison Gonzales, Jocelyn Schwegler and Pua Wong picked up the distinction for the second year in a row, while Jaclyn Myers, Katie Fugit, Krista Krantz, Maddie Meza, Kira O'Donell, Katie Quon and Grace Ramirez made the team for the first time.
Those 14 athletes helped continue a tradition of academic excellence for CBU. The Lancers have posted the third-best team grade-point average in the NCAA (Divisions I-III) the last two years in a row, according to the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches, and are still waiting to see where they rank this season.
