RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist University women's water polo team enters postseason play this week as the 4th seed in their final GCC Tournament appearance. The Lancers earned their highest seeding in the GCC Tournament since 2016, finishing 3-3 in conference play during the regular season and 13-10 overall.
CBU's first round matchup will be against 5-seeded Pacific who finished 2-4 in the GCC standings and 10-9 overall. The Tigers slid into the #5 seed after dropping their final three conference matches (excluding a forfeit win over Santa Clara). In the regular season matchup, the Lancers bested the Tigers on the road 13-11 in Stockton for their first win over Pacific since 2014. Emmie Ramirez showed out in the victory with a five-goal performance that helped the Lancers hold off the Tigers for the critical conference victory.
CBU will look to earn its first GCC Tournament victory since 2023 when it defeated Santa Clara in the 6th Place match in San Diego. The Lancers will be led into the tournament by a pair of All-GCC performers, including Emmie Ramirez, who was the GCC Newcomer of the Year as well as being named to the All-GCC First Team. Ramirez led the GCC in points with 121 and was second in the conference in goals with 70. Ramirez was joined on the All-GCC list by her fellow attacker Niya Bumbaca, who was second in the GCC in assists and would set the single-season program record for assists in a season with 61.
