MINNEAPOLIS — On a chilly fall morning at the Roy Griak Invitational, California Baptist University took eighth place in a stacked 15-team field.
"Hats off to Minnesota for having us up," said Coach Adam Tribble.
The Lancers finished with 216 team points for the eighth-place finish in the highly competitive event. Four of CBU's opponents entered Saturday holding a spot in their respective region's top-15: Duke (No. 13, Southeast), Minnesota (No. 3, Midwest), Montana State (No. 12, Mountain), and South Dakota State (No. 12, Midwest).
Simon Bedard (25 minutes, 31.5 seconds, 34th) and McMarshall Hartzenburg (25:33.2, 35th) had a tight battle for the top runner on the Lancer team with Bedard beating out Hartzenburg by less than two seconds.
"It was good to see McMarshall really put it out there in the beginning of the race," said Tribble. "He struggled late, but I was pleased with the effort. He should be in a much better spot come next month."
Jayden Emerson (25:46.9, 48th) and William Ernst (25:55.1, 55th) finished the day with sub-26 minute times. Dennis Messmer (26:10.9, 65th) rounded out the CBU scoring five. Hector Peralta (26:43, 96th) and Cody Beeson (26:52.9, 106th) wrapped up the day for the Lancers at the Lee Bolstad Golf Course.
CBU will return to action on October 13 for the UCR Highlander Invite, the last race of the season before the Western Athletic Conference Championship meet.
