CBU Defeats Incarnate Word in Sunday Showdown
10/27/2019 4:03:00 PM | Men's Soccer
The win puts the Lancers back on the right side of .500 in the Western Athletic Conference, improving them to 4-3-1 with just three games left in the season.
UIW had its own shutout streak extended to a third straight game, this time against Albert Escuin, who earned his fourth shutout of the year.
Today's goals were results of solid team play and good heads up thinking by Lancer attackers. The first goal, scored by Linus Mansson in the 29th minute, was taken from a perfectly led pass from teammate Oliver Bryneus. The goal was Mansson's first this season, which ultimately proved to be the game-winner, the first of his CBU career.

Head Coach Coe Michaelson has had to be clever with his players this year, with some playing out of position. "I was happy to see Linus get that goal. The plan was never for him to end up at center back this year. He is such an exceptional attacking fullback, but injuries started piling up, and he has done it for the team, and today, you saw that quality he has going forward."
The follow-up score covered the entire length of the pitch. As Chris Heckenberg cleared a UIW push, he placed it at midfield, where only teammate Jerry Ramirez could get to it. Once Ramirez had it, it was off to the races with just the keeper to beat, and he did so for his first collegiate goal.

The final score of the day came from a heads up play by Reuben Dass. While starting his run, the sideline officials flag went up for offsides but was quickly retracted. Most players stopped play, but Dass kept going, and it paid off with his third goal of the season.

Albert Escuin and his back four defenders had another stellar day, holding the Cardinals to eight shots on goal, none of which caused much concern for the defense. For Escuin, it was his fourth shutout this year and seventh at CBU, which lands him in sole possession of sixth-most all-time, and third during the NCAA era.
The Lancers will be on the road for their next two games at Houston Baptist (Nov. 1 @ 5:30 p.m. PDT) and Kansas City (Nov. 3 @ 12:00 p.m. PDT).
