Lancers In The Hunt After Day One

LAS CRUCES --- California Baptist University's women's golf team teed it up for the first round of the NM State Aggie Invitational on Monday, as the Lancers ended day one in a tie for fifth.
With mid 70's and mostly sunny skies, the 17-team field battled it out on the 6,368-yard par-72 course hosted by New Mexico State. The tournament is held at the NM State Golf Course with three days of 18-hole rounds being played to decide the champion.
NM State and Northern Arizona went into the clubhouse after day one in a tie for first with an 8-over-par 296 team score. UTEP finished third with a 12-over-par 300, Southern Utah placed fourth with a 14-over-par 302, while the Lancers and South Dakota State are tied at fifth with a 17-over-par 305.
With only nine strokes separating the leader, the Lancers recorded consistent scores with three players finishing inside the top-20 in the field of 100 golfers.
Jocelyn Chee, Sofia Chabon, and Kristyna Abrahamova all finished T-18th after signing a 4-over-par 76 on the day. The trio combined for 42 pars on the day, while Chee was the only player to card a birdie.
Samantha Martirez finished her round one stroke off her teammates, shooting a 5-over-par 77 to place T-28th. Diana Araneta is currently T-77th with an 82.
Teresa Toscano of South Dakota State, Eliska Kocourkova of Northern Arizona, Pluem Yongyuan of Southern Utah, and Audrey Haddad of UTEP are all tied as the day one leader with a 2-under-par 70.
The Lancers are back on the course on Tuesday, Oct. 8, for the second round. The shotgun start will take place at 7 a.m. (PST).
