RIVERSIDE – For the second year in a row, California Baptist University put a Lancer on the Google Cloud Academic All-District 8 team. Sydney Marks earned the second-team distinction for CBU this season late in her fantastic junior season.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his current institution. In addition, nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed.
Marks all three criteria emphatically. She has maintained a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade-point average as a business administration/political science major. She also leads the Lancers in kills this season, with 288 overall and 2.74 a set, all while transitioning from middle blocker to outside hitter. She is hitting .220 on the year and also has 79 digs and 33 blocks this season.
The Lodi, Calif. native has at least nine kills in 18 of 27 matches this year. She has double-digit kills 14 times and 15 or more six times, with a season and career-high 20 against Nevada back in September.
CBU plays its final three matches of the 2019 regular season in Riverside. The Lancers' final two home matches are against Utah Valley and Seattle U on Saturday and Sunday, with respective start times of 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. The year comes to a close with a match at UC Riverside on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
