KANSAS CITY – The California Baptist men's soccer team completed their final road trip of the season at Kansas City, dropping the game by a score of 1-0.
The Roos came into the contest in a tie for the seventh playoff spot with just two games to go. Tied with Houston Baptist, the Roos had a lot riding on getting a positive result in the game.
A slow pace hung over the opening 20 minutes of the game, keeping either team from challenging much.
Only one shot was taken before the 21st minute, and it was easily saved by CBU's Albert Esuin. However, from the 21st minute on, there were 13 shots taken, nine of which came from the foot of a Lancer.
The best opportunity for the visiting team came in the 37th minute when the Lancers got two back-to-back shots off inside the 6-yard box.
Inside of two minutes to go, the Roos opened up the scoring, netting a volley off of a long curling cross.
The second half saw CBU take 11 more shots, putting three on frame, but unable to put one in the back of the net.
Escuin would finish the game with four saves, including another spectacular diving stop in the second half.
Tete Vacas led the Lancers in shots on goal with three, while he and Aguirre each had five shots total.
The Lancers will return to Riverside for their season finale against CSU Bakersfield on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 2:00 p.m. The match will also include a halftime ceremony honoring CBU's four seniors.

CBU gets a pair of shots off inside the six, but Roo defenders are in the right place at the right time. Still knotted at zeros later in the first half. #LanceUp⚔️ pic.twitter.com/3FhE6QbrVf
