CBU Joins Rare Company at 6-0
2/22/2019 10:18:00 PM | Baseball
The Lancers became just one of three teams in D-I to start 2019 with a 6-0 record, with the other two being Pacific and Texas A&M. CBU's bullpen continued to be a dominant force, as the Bobcats drop to 1-3 this season. The Lancers are off to their best start since 2014 when they opened the season 15-0.
Travis Booth and Jacob McCarvel were lights out on the mound for CBU over the final seven innings. Booth got the win by throwing 5.2 shutout innings, allowing just five base runners (three walks, two hits) and striking out a career-high nine.

Travis Booth absolutely blows this pitch by the Ohio batter for the strikeout. He has seven strikeouts through four innings, as CBU leads the Bobcats 4-1 going into the bottom of the sixth.#LanceUp pic.twitter.com/m6jpbYwHsK
McCarvel got the save after coming on with two runners on and two outs in the bottom of the eighth with CBU holding a 5-1 lead. McCarvel got a big strikeout to end the eighth and then worked around a double and a walk in the ninth to end the game.
Jacob McCarvel brings the heat❗️❗️❗️ The full-count strikeout strands two Ohio runners on the bases and keeps CBU in front 5-1 going into the bottom of the eighth inning.#LanceUp pic.twitter.com/dVWO4pS5lK

CBU's series with Ohio continues with a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday and then concludes with a 1 p.m. game at Totman Stadium on Sunday. The Bobcats have advanced to the NCAA Regionals twice in the last four years.
Offensively, Andrew Bash, Ryan Mota, Luke Navigato and John Glenn all had multi-hit games for CBU on Friday night. Bash (3-for-5) and Mota (3-for-4, two runs batted in) both had three hits, while Navigato (2-for-4, two runs, two RBIs) and Glenn (2-for-4, RBI) had two each.
Ohio took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Lancers struck back with a three-run second. Singles from Mota, Rory Smith and a walk to Harrison Spohn loaded the bases for an RBI single from Glenn. CBU quickly broke the tie on RBI singles from Navigato and Billy Rockefeller.
CBU took its first lead of the game, 3-1, after these RBI singles from Luke Navigato and Billy Rockefeller in the bottom of the second. The score remains the same in the top of the fourth.#LanceUp pic.twitter.com/5kRDKrLISS

Navigato took over the team lead for home runs this season when he hit his third on a solo shot in the fourth to make it 4-1 Lancers.

Luke Navigato continues his UNREAL start to the season with his third home run of the year to left field. It gives CBU a 4-1 lead going into the top of the fifth inning.#LanceUp pic.twitter.com/FEzREXkY6o
Mota made it 5-1 with a drive to the warning track that brought home Navigato, who walked and then took third on a Bash single, in the sixth. Then Mota added his second RBI with a double to right in the eighth. Rockefeller scored after being hit by a pitch and taking third on another Bash base knock. A misplayed infield fly from Rory Smith led to CBU's seventh and final run.
Ryan Mota provides some insurance with a rope to right field for a double. He is now 3-for-4 with two runs batted in tonight. CBU leads 6-1 in the bottom of the eighth.#LanceUp pic.twitter.com/MlQyX7tzP5
