Lancers On the Move at GCU

PHOENIX – California Baptist University will look to make a big move up the leaderboard at the Grand Canyon Spring Invitational in the final 22 holes to play on Sunday.
Saturday's second round was ended early due to darkness, which leaves most teams with 22 holes to play on Sunday. The Lancers currently tied for 14th in the 20-team tournament at 40-over-par, but are less than 20 strokes off a top-five position. Sunday will begin with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
CBU is gaining valuable experience at Grand Canyon's Championship Golf Course, as there are four Western Athletic Conference teams in attendance, as well as nine teams ranked in the top 150 of Golfstat's NCAA Division I rankings.
Toldeo, which is ranked 85th, leads the field at one-over par, while Southern Utah and the WAC's Utah Valley ranked second and third at 11 and 18-over par, respectively. Lamar (+21) and defending WAC champion Grand Canyon (+21) round out the top five.
CBU is already on an upward trajectory, as it has moved three spots up the leaderboard in the second round already. The Lancers shot 25-over-par 313 in the first round, and are only 15-over par 14 holes through the second round.
Yifei "Sunny" Wang ranks highest for the Lancers so far, tied for 39th in the 108-player field at eight-over par. The senior shot 76 in the first round and is four over with four holes left in her second round.
Samantha Martirez is in 53rd at 10-over par after she carded an 80 over her first 18 holes, but is just two-over in the second round.
Erica Wang and Jocelyn Chee are both tied for 59th at 11-over par. Erica Wang shot 78 in the first round and is currently five-over. Chee ended her first 18 with a 79 and is now four over.
Kristina Abrahamova is on track for a five-stroke improvement in round two after she shot 82 in the first round and is now five-over.
