Seattle Escapes From Late Lancer Run

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – California Baptist (15-12; 6-7 WAC) trailed Seattle (16-13; 4-10 WAC) by as many as 13 points in the second half, but came roaring back on a late 12-0 run to tie the game with under a minute remaining. The Lancers missed what would have been the game winning shot as time expired with the Redhawks escaping the CBU Events Center with a 67-65 conference road win on Thursday night.
Milan Acquaah, the WAC's leading scorer, finished with a game-high 23 points along with three steals. He has now scored 20 or more points in 17 games played this season.
Seattle was scorching hot from outside to start the game. The Redhawks went on an early 18-7 run, making 6-of-7 shots from outside that gave them a 20-12 lead with 11:34 on the clock.
Acquaah was sensational and kept CBU within striking distance with 17 first half points. The Lancers finished the first half on a 6-0 run, but went to the locker room trailing by five at 39-34.
CBU's Jordan Heading hit a jumper to make it a four point game at 47-43 with 14:45 left in the contest. Seattle answered with a 9-0 run that pushed the score to its widest margin of the night at 13 points with 11:37 remaining.
Heading kept the Lancers close, scoring eight straight points to cut into the Seattle lead that stood at 60-53 with 8:10 left.
With the Lancers down by 12 points, Jeremy Smith hit a three pointer that ignited what would turn into a 12-0 run.
Seattle's Delante Jones drove from beyond the arc toward the baseline and knocked down a difficult jumper challenged by two Lancer defenders with eight seconds remaining to give the Redhawks a 67-65 lead.
Davis promptly inbounded the ball to Heading, putting pressure on the Seattle defense. Heading advanced the ball down the court and attempted a three pointer with two seconds remaining that rimmed out as the clock expired.
Morgan Means scored with a team-high 21 points for Seattle. Terrell Brown tallied 18 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Mattia Da Campo posted a double-double with 11 points and 14 boards.
The Lancers will play their final regular season home game on Saturday night against Utah Valley. Heading will be recognized during Senior Day festivities prior to the 7 p.m. contest.

The Lancers came up empty on the next two possessions, but De'jon Davis was able to get to the free throw line after rebounding his own shot with 28 seconds remaining. Davis entered tonight's game as a 79.3-percent shooter from the charity stripe.
