CBU Takes Early Lead in Utah

RESULTS
ST. GEORGE, Utah – One of the best team performances of the season gave California Baptist University a three-stroke lead halfway through the Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational on Thursday.
All five golfers shot 76 or better to give the Lancers a four-over-par 292 in round one of two at the Sunbrook Golf Club. Samantha Martirez and Jocelyn Chee both shot par or better, while all five Lancers rank in the top-18 in the 84-golfer and 14-team field.
It's a close race going into Friday's final round, with Xavier (295), host Southern Utah (297) and Oral Roberts (298) six shots back. CBU is going for its second win of the season after it won its first tournament of the season, the USA Intercollegiate back on Sept. 17th.
Martirez carded a one-under-par 71 to put herself in a tie for second place with Southern Utah's Chanikan Yongyuan. Oral Roberts' Sarah Bell leads the field (70), while Chee is tied for fourth place, with the Thunderbirds' Kyla Smith, at even-par 72.
It was a challenge to score for the Lancers, as the final three all finished within two strokes of each other. Kristyna Abrahamova is tied for 10th with a 74, while Erica Wang is tied for 13th (75) and Yifei "Sunny" Wang is in 18th (76).
The final round of the Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational will begin with a 9 a.m. shotgun start on Friday. There are no live stats available for the tournament.
