Lancers Grab Two Top-Five Finishes

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – California Baptist University secured two top-five finishes to kick off the first day of the UC Riverside Spring Classic Invitational on Friday night. The teams in attendance include UC Riverside, Western Athletic Conference member Utah Valley, Sacramento State, UC Irvine, Azusa Pacific and UNLV.

Several Lancers competed in the 5,000 meter on Friday night. Collins Koech placed fifth for the men with a 15 minute, 40.25 seconds time in his first collegiate 5K on the track. Jayden Emerson (15:49.91) and Cody Beeson (15:57.48) both clocked in under the 16 minute mark to take 10^th and 11^th, respectively. Michael Lowrie (16:07.80) took 12^th and Jacob Boatman rounded out the field in 16:45.27.

On the women's side, Maria Paula Guerrero took fifth place in 17:37.99 to easily break the 18:01.27 personal best that she had posted at the Oxy Distance Carnival two weeks ago.

Ultimately, the 5,000 meter belonged to Utah Valley on Friday Night, with the Wolverines sweeping the top four spots in both the men's and women's races. Both teams will see action tomorrow in the 1,500 meter to conclude the weekend.
