Five Lancers had multi-hit games in the victory, with Luke Navigato and Ryan Mota both putting together three-hit performances. Chad Castillo, John Glenn and Nick Plaia all had two hits, with Glenn driving in a game-high three runs on a double and a home run.
Logan Rinehart earned the win on the mound by throwing 6.2 innings in which he struck out a career-high 13.
It is tied for the second most strikeouts in a game in CBU's NCAA era (2013-19), second only to Garett King's 15 in a no-hitter at Academy of Art on March 23, 2017. Jeremy McDonald also struck out 13 batters against Saint Martin's on Feb. 26, 2016.
CBU improves to 25-16 on the year and 10-6 in the WAC and Northern Colorado drops to 8-27, 4-12 in conference with the series continuing at noon PDT on Saturday and ending at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
Friday was a back-and-forth contest early on, with two ties and two lead changes in the first six innings. The Lancers took a 6-5 lead into the ninth after UNC scored a run in each the seventh and eighth. The Bears could have tied the game, if not for Castillo throwing out a runner at the plate from left field in the seventh.
Northern Colorado gets a run back in the bottom of the seventh to make it 6-4, but foolishly test the arm of true freshman Chad Castillo in left field, who throws the Bear out at the plate. #LanceUp pic.twitter.com/VZi4uMlWDR
