Lancers Erupt for Season-High 19 Hits, Runs

CBU erased a three-run, first-inning deficit by scoring multiple runs from the second through fifth innings and seven in the seventh to convincingly defeat the Bears. Five Lancers had multi-hit games and five also had multiple runs batted in, while CBU tied its season-high with four home runs in the game.
John Glenn went 4-for-4 at the plate with four runs scored, three RBI, two doubles and a home run. Harrison Spohn and Luke Navigato each had three hits, with Spohn hitting a grand slam in the game. Nick Plaia, Chad Castillo (three RBI) and Damon Keith also had two hits each on Saturday.
CBU's record moves to 26-16 on the year and 11-6 in the WAC, while Northern Colorado drops to 8-28, 4-13. The Lancers go for the series sweep on Sunday, with an 11 a.m. PDT first pitch in Greeley.
When the Bears scored three runs in the first, CBU answered right back with three runs in the second. Glenn and Spohn both doubled in the inning, while Plaia had an RBI single. Keith drove in a run with a grounder, and a double-steal attempt brought in the third.

Mota and Glenn hit a two-run and solo homer, respectively, in the third inning to give the Lancers their first lead, 6-3.

Leadoff singles from Navigato and Plaia led off the fourth inning with singles; and then they scored on grounders from Castillo and Mota to make it 8-3.
Three-straight singles from Glenn, Rory Smith and Keith loaded the bases with no outs in the fifth for CBU. Spohn scored them all with a grand slam homer to make it 12-3.

The Lancers seven-run seventh came on four hits and two errors. Spohn led off with a single and back-to-back errors loaded the bases. Castillo scored two runs with a single to right field, and Glenn plated two more with a double. Pinch-hitter Antonio Jimenez then smashed a three-run homer – the first of his career – to give CBU the 19-4 advantage.

Chris Burica threw the first six innings on the mound for CBU, and struck out five. Austin Johnson closed out the game with a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the seventh.
