RIVERSIDE - Construction is currently underway for the Athletic Performance Center (APC) at California Baptist University. The APC is set to open in September of 2019.
The facility is an expansion of the 40,682-square-foot Recreation Center that opened on campus in January 2013 and will be located near the CBU Events Center, home of the men's and women's basketball programs. The APC will include a 10,800-square-foot weight room, the largest of the NCAA Division I non-football institutions in the state of California. The project will also include a dedicated nutrition space, a basketball practice court and a six-lane, 30-yard training area among other features.
"Our student-athletes have succeeded at an extremely high level," said CBU Athletics Director Dr. Micah Parker. "The new APC will be a physical sign to our recruits and their families of the importance of athletics at CBU and will show that we are committed to giving them every tool they need to be successful."
Equipment in the APC is highlighted by new power racks, pulleys, cardio machines, and other strength training equipment, according to Jason Quan, CBU's Director of Athletic Strength and Conditioning. Quan added that all 18 of CBU's NCAA DI programs will use the strength and conditioning facility.
As a department, CBU teams logged an above .500 overall record in head-to-head competition in 2018-19. Five Lancer teams: volleyball, men's and women's basketball and swim/dive qualified for postseason tournaments involving all Division I schools. Both basketball teams hosted first-round postseason tournament games, while both water polo teams ended the year ranked in the top-25 of the NCAA (men 16th, women 25th).
At the conference level, nine teams secured top-five finishes in the regular season. Women's cross country and baseball both won Western Athletic Conference titles. It moves CBU's total to 73 conference championships in its history, with 45 of them coming since it began its transition to NCAA in 2011-12. Academically, the Lancers maintained their high standard and achieved a new all-time high department grade-point average of 3.355.

It was announced on Monday that the NCAA Strategic Vision and Planning Committee voted to advance the Lancers to year two of the reclassification process to NCAA Division I. The Lancers just completed an impressive first year in NCAA Division I in 2018-19. They're now cleared to begin the second of four transition seasons to full D-I membership.🚨COMING IN SEPTEMBER!🚨
