RIVERSIDE, Calif. – A successful weekend at the UCR Invitational for California Baptist University cross country has paid dividends, as both teams moved up to program highs in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division I West Region Rankings on Monday. When the national poll was released on Tuesday, the women's team received votes for the first time in the D-I era.
The women's team moved up one spot to No. 7 in the West, leapfrogging Cal Poly, who finished third at the UC Riverside Invitational, in the regional poll.
From that same race came the second Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week awarded to CBU in program history. Emilie Renaud picked up the honor for the Lancers after leading the charge for CBU en-route to the team title at the UC Riverside Invitational.
Renaud completed the 6-kilometer course in 20:25.20 to set a new personal record and etch her name as the second-fastest in school history.
The men's team jumped five spots from No. 15 to No. 10 on the heels of a runner-up finish to West Region No. 8, Cal Poly. The men's team posted the second-fastest 6k team time in school history.
CBU will have the opportunity to race against nationally-ranked competition at Minnesota's Roy Griak Invitational on September 28, facing the likes of No. 19 Columbia and No. 23 Minnesota in the women's race in Minneapolis.
