WEST COVINA --- California Baptist University's women's golf team opened up its 2020 spring season with the SoCal Ryder Cup on Sunday, as the Lancers fell to Cal State Fullerton, 11-7.
The one-day tournament was held at South Hills Country Club, as the Lancers squared off with Cal State Fullerton in match play. The front nine consisted of a three-team, best-ball match play, while the back nine showcased a 1-on-1 singles match play format with six different groups squaring off against each other. The format was set up for each match worth two points in both team and singles play for a total of 18 points on the line.
CBU was able to secure two points in match two from Diana Araneta and Jocelyn Chee as they won their match against Brittany Shin and Sofia Legaspi. The Titans were able to pull off wins in match one and match three to take a 4-2 lead into singles.
Samantha Martirez grabbed the Lancers' first points of singles play, beating Elsa Lundquist to tie the match up at 4-4. The Titans narrowly won the next three matches to grab six more points before Kristyna Abrahamova forced a tie at match five. Sofia Chabon closed the match out with a victory of her own, beating Sara Camerena.
The Lancers are back in action on Feb. 10-11 when they take on Battle at the Rock hosted by UC Riverside. The Lancers will be without Jocelyn Chee for the UCR event, as she qualified for the Women's Amateur Asia Pacific (WAAP) during that week in Pattaya, Thailand.
