RIVERSIDE – California Baptist University's last five NCAA seasons have been wildly successful, as further evidenced by a recent research project completed by James Madison University Athletics.
Over the last five years (2015-20), the Lancers boast a .645 All-Sport Winning Percentage. It puts CBU in impressive standing in the field of NCAA Division I schools, as it ranks top 20 within that group, according to James Madison Athletics. It put the Lancers ahead of national powers, like Duke, Oregon, LSU, Washington, Georgia and many more.
The research included all intercollegiate sports that compile a traditional win-loss record, which includes the Lancers' men's and women's basketball, soccer, water polo, swim and dive, volleyball, baseball/softball and wrestling teams.
NOTE FROM CBU ATHLETICS COMMUNICATIONS OFFICE: The Lancers have posted a .645 winning percentage over the past five years which slightly differs from the .643 winning percentage calculated by JMU.
CBU was approved to advance to year three of the NCAA Division I reclassification this July and had posted a .534 All-Sport Winning Percentage in Division I over the last two seasons (2018-19, 2019-20). Over that span, the Lancers have won three Western Athletic Conference team championships (2018 and 2019 women's cross country, 2019 baseball regular season), logged 11 top-three conference finishes and qualified seven teams for postseason tournaments involving Division I programs.
From 2013-14 through 2017-18, CBU solidified itself as a D-II power. The Lancers left Division II and the PacWest Conference in just about the best way possible as they won the 2018 D-II Learfield Directors' Cup (after a runner-up finish in 2017) and the PacWest Commissioner's Cup for the sixth time and fifth year in a row.
DISCLAIMER FROM JAMES MADISON: While every effort was made to accurately collect data, the sheer volume of data compiled for this research and inconsistency of available data in select sports leaves the possibility for slight variance in the final win percentage and thus the overall ranking of an individual institution. An assumption can be made for a slight margin of error in this data.
