RIVERSIDE -- After a half-dozen golfers were named WGCA All-American Scholar Athletes at the end of June, the California Baptist University women's golf team added another impressive line to their 2019-20 season list of accomplishments.
The Lancers posted the third highest team grade-point average in Division I this season with a cumulative total of 3.950 – finishing behind the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay (3.958) and the University of New Mexico (3.965). The Lancers GPA ranked third among all three divisions, while New Mexico claimed the highest collective average team GPA among all NCAA and NAIA divisions.
"Very proud of this TEAM and how they all take extreme pride in what they do on and off the golf course," said Head Coach Marc Machado. "Every time I think about this year's 3.950 TEAM GPA it still amazes me. I so am blessed to work with such driven and high level student-athletes."
The team honor comes on the heels of six individual awards announced on June 29. Belle Balkan, Diana Araneta, Jocelyn Chee, Samantha Martirez, Kristyna Abrahamova, and Sofia Chabon were the six golfers making that list, setting a new program record for most All-American Scholars in a single season.
This marks the fourth straight year that the Lancers have earned a spot in the top-19 of the NCAA's highest GPA's and the second straight year in the top-3 of Division I.
