CBU Closes Out Busy Weekend With Two Top-13 Matchups

SANTA CLARA – California Baptist University men's water polo closed out a busy weekend with two games against top-13 ranked opponents.
The 18th ranked Lancers battled but fell to No. 13 Harvard, 13-9, and seventh-ranked UC Santa Barbara 23-9 on Saturday in Santa Clara's Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament. CBU is now 13-13 on the year while Harvard improve to 19-2 and UCSB is now 16-7.
The Lancers will return to Western Water Polo Association play at Loyola Marymount on Thursday at 3 p.m. They will then host Santa Clara and Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday at 12 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively.
Zach Lowery continued his big week with nine points (four goals, five assists), four drawn ejections and two steals on the day. Tristan Felberg had 20 saves on the day.
Felberg matched his career high with 17 saves, including four blocked penalty shots, against the Crimson. Those 17 saves rank top-20 in CBU's single-game history.
Harvard was gifted eight penalty shots in the game, which played a big role in its victory and led to three key Lancers being majored three times.
Lowery was top class against the Crimson with three assists, two goals, three drawn ejections and a steal. Joseph Griffin also scored twice in the game, while Toby Bumgardner had a goal, assist and three steals.
Bumgardner had three points (two goals, one assist); a drawn ejection and steal against UC Santa Barbara. Lowery added two goals, two assists, a drawn ejection and a steal on the Gauchos.
It put the cap on a big week for Lowery, as he posted 18 points (10 goals, eight assists); five drawn ejections, three sprints won and two steals over four games. He also set CBU's career assists record and has since run that total to 194.
