
Rowell Leads Lancers in Conference Split Against Aggies

EL PASO --- Ty Rowell led all scorers on Saturday night, as California Baptist University split the conference series with NM State.
After the Lancers beat the Aggies on Friday, 85-75, the Aggies responded with a 97-70 victory to even up the series. CBU moves to 9-6 on the season and a fourth-best 4-4 in the WAC. NM State grabs its first win in conference play and improves to 4-4, 1-3 on the year.
The Aggies produced their best shooting performance of the season, shooting 67.8 percent from the field in the first half and 52.9 percent in the second half. They also shot 50 percent from the three-point line in the first frame and finished the game with 10 made threes. Coming into the series, the Aggies were averaging seven made threes per game and a conference-low 25.7 percent from deep.
Rowell led the Lancers from start to finish, going 9-14 from the field and 3-4 from the 3-point line for 22 points in 36 minutes. This marks the fifth game this season Rowell has scored 20 or more points in a game. Elijah Thomas added 14 points for the Lancers, while Gak was the final Lancer in double figures with 13.
CBU ended the game shooting 46.8 percent from the field, 50 percent from the three-point line, and 80 percent from the charity stripe. Turnovers played a factor for the Lancers, as they gave up 18 on the night. The Aggies used that to their advantage, scoring 23 points off turnovers.

The Lancers will turn their focus on UT Rio Grande Valley for the upcoming week, as they host the Vaqueros on Feb. 12-13 in the CBU Events Center. Both games are set to tipoff at 6 p.m.
