Lancers Tied For First After Day One of Bobcat Spring Invitational

GOODYEAR --- California Baptist University showcased a strong performance on the first day of the Bobcat Spring Invitational on Monday, as the Lancers are tied for first with Gonzaga.
The Lancers recorded a 1-under-par 287 team score and went into the clubhouse tied for first with Gonzaga over the field of 11 teams. Seattle U is in third with a 2-over-par 290, and Weber State is in fourth at 8-over-par 296. The rest of the field is 12 strokes back from the Lancers and the Zags.
Sofia Chabon was untouchable during her round, producing six birdies to shoot a 5-under-par 67 on the day. Chabon holds a one-stroke lead over the 71-player field. She opened her round on hole five, and after a birdie, bogey, birdie start, she played the rest of the course 4-under-par with a 2-under-par 34 on the back nine.
Samantha Martirez also finished inside the top-10 with Chabon, currently in seventh with an even-par 72 on the card. Hailey Loh is one stroke behind Martirez at T-11th with a 73, while Haruka Shintani shot a 75 and is T-28th. Jocelyn Chee signed a 76 and is T-37th.
As for the Lancer individuals, Belle Balkan is tied with Martirez at seventh with a 72, while Diana Araneta matched Loh in 11th with a 73. Filipa Capelo shot a 77 and is T-43rd, while Esther Lee is T-63rd with an 82. Anabella Gurrola signed an 86 and is currently in 69th.
The Lancers and Chabon will look to maintain their position during the final round on Tuesday, April 13.
