Lancers Record Fourth Podium Finish Of The Season

GOODYEAR --- California Baptist University recorded its fourth top-three finish on Tuesday, as the Lancers placed third out of 11 teams at the Bobcat Spring Invitational.
The Lancers finished the two-day event with an 8-over-par 287-297=584 team score. Gonzaga University won the event with a 4-under-par 572 team score, while Seattle U claimed second with a 7-over-par 583 team score to edge the Lancers by one.
Sofia Chabon was the top finisher for the Lancers, taking third out of 71 golfers with a 3-under-par 67-74=141. Samantha Martirez joined Chabon in the top-10, finishing tied for ninth with a 1-over-par 72-73=145.
Hailey Loh cracked the top-20 with a T-19th finish, shooting 73-75=148. Loh showcased some true grit after a bogey, double-bogey start and followed it up with three-straight birdies. Haruka Shintani moved up one spot to place T-27th with a 75-75=150, while Jocelyn Chee climbed three spots to take T-34th with a 76-75=151.
As for the Lancer individuals, Belle Balkan finished T-12th with a 72-74=146. Diana Araneta signed a 73-78=151 to finish T-34th with Chee. Filipa Capeolo recorded back-to-back 77's to finish with a 154 and take T-45th. Esther Lee moved up two spots at T-61st with an 82-78=160, while Anabella Gurrola moved up three spots to place T-66th with an 86-80=166.
Samantha Bruce of Seattle U won the medalist honors after shooting back-to-back 69's to finish 6-under-par.
The Lancers will take the momentum into next week when they compete in the final tournament of the season at the Western Athletic Conference Championships. The event will be held in Boulder City, Nevada, at the Boulder Creek Golf Course. Since the Lancers are still in the transition period, no team score will be recorded, as the players will compete as individuals.
