Chabon Leads Lancers During Second Round Of WAC Championships

BOULDER CITY --- Sofia Chabon led the charge for California Baptist University during the second round of the Western Athletic Conference Championships, moving up 11 spots during Tuesday's round.
Chabon finished with a 1-under-par 71 to climb the leaderboard and take T-12th. She is currently 4-over-par on the two days with a 148 score. Her day opened up with a bogey on one, but she carded three front-nine birdies to shoot a 2-under-par 34. Chabon ended her round with six straight pars.
Haruka Shintani also moved up the leaderboard for the Lancers, jumping up four spots after shooting a 1-over-par 73 to sit T-14th. Shintani made an incredible putt on six that led to her first birdie of the day.

After a 5-over-par start on the front nine, Hailey Loh battled on the back, finishing the final nine holes at a 3-under-par 33 to shoot a 2-over-par 74. Loh is currently T-14th with Shintani with a 149 total score. Samantha Martirez is T-24th with a 75-79=154, while Jocelyn Chee signed an 80-78=158 to take T-32nd.
With CBU in its third year of the transition process, the Lancers aren't eligible to post a team score in the standings. Grand Canyon took over the top spot in the five-team leaderboard after posting a 6-under-par 282 team score in the second round. The Lopes now hold a 4-under-par 572 team score and a two-stroke lead over day one's leader NM State. The Aggies finished with a 2-under-par 574 team score, while Seattle U is in third with a 595 team score. Utah Valley is in fourth with a 597 team score, and UT Rio Grande Valley rounded out the scoring in fifth with a 611 team score. CBU is joined by Dixie State, Tarleton, and Chicago State as the four teams competing as individuals.
Payton Fehringer of Grand Canyon maintained her day one lead with a 1-under-par 71 to hold a two-stroke lead over the 43 player field. Suthavee Chanachai of NM State is two strokes behind Fehringer after firing a 4-under-par 68.
The Lancers will compete in the final round on Wednesday, April 21, with an 8:46 a.m. tee time.
