SHAWNEE --- California Baptist University continued its perfect season on Friday, as the Lancers opened the second round of the DI/DII STUNT National Championships with a 21-2 victory over Concordia.
After a perfect 12-0 season, the Lancers entered the weekend of their first-ever Nationals with a first-round bye after securing the No. 1 seed.
This marked win number four for the Lancers over the Eagles, as they both compete in the West Coast Conference. CBU went a perfect 5-0 in conference play to claim its first-ever WCC Championship.
In the first quarter, the Lancers won all four points to take a 4-0 lead in partner stunts. CBU went into the half up 8-0 after grabbing four more points in the pyramid and tosses.
With an 8-0 advantage, the Lancers showed no signs of slowing down after the break, opening the third quarter with another four points in jumps and tumbling. The Lancers closed out the game earning the maximum amount of points allowed in a game to beat the Eagles, 21-2.
The Lancers will now face No. 2 seed Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday, May 1, at 9:30 a.m. (PST) in the semifinals. Since it's a double-elimination style tournament, the Lancers will either advance to the championship game later in the day or battle back in game seven of the tournament.
