
CBU Finishes Off Its Finest Showing at WAC Track Championships With Lots More Awards

The Lancers finished off the third and final day of the WAC Meet with their third championship run and eight more all-conference performances on Saturday at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Soccer & Track and Field Complex.
It gave CBU three individual titles and 17 all-conference (nine first team, eight second team) awards on the week. It was an improvement on the Lancers' two WAC championships and 10 All-WAC performances (three first team, five second team) in their 2019 debut.
All those award-worthy performances led the Lancers to their best-ever finishes and highest point totals in the conference meet, as well. Despite only carrying distance runners, both CBU teams took fifth out of seven teams on the men's side and nine women's squads. The men tallied 61 points and the women had 60. The Lancers took sixth on the women's end with 33 points and seventh on the men's side (27) in 2019.

Elin Brink won the first conference title on the women's side on the week in the 1500 meter. She used a strong kick over the final 100 to pull away easily and win in four minutes, 28.65 seconds. It bested the previous stadium record of 4:30.74 and left Grand Canyon's Paige Hildenbrandt (4:29.60) a distant second.
CBU tallied four runner-up finishes on Saturday, as well, to give the Lancers six on the weekend.

Florian Le Pallec notched two runner-up finishes on his own in the men's 1500 and 5,000, as he clocked a 3:52.52 and 14:22.60, respectively. On the women's side, Anneken Viljoen took second in the 800 (2:13.14) and Greta Karinauskaite finished runner-up in the 5K (16:53.34).

Viljoen's 2:13.14 in the 800 was a season-best, which improved her top-five time in CBU history. She and also made the All-WAC Second Team when she took sixth place in the 1500 (4:42.35). The Lancers swept sixth through eighth place in the women's race, thanks to Emilia Mikszuta (4:44.31) and Helen Pacurariu-Nagy (4:46.13).

Manuel Peris Bruno finished his collegiate career with a fourth-place finish in the 5,000 to make the All-WAC Second Team, with a time of 14:33.61. Anna Mate recorded her second all-conference run of the week when she took sixth in the 5K in 17:11.86 to make the WAC's Second Team.
Rikus Van Niekerk also took seventh in the 5K (14:54.23) and Giedrius Valincius placed ninth in the 1500 (3:58.17) for the men. On the women's side, the Lancers got top-15 finishes from Cynthia Martin (12th, 18:13.66); Paige Haynes (14th, 18:18.42) and Pacurariu-Nagy (15th, 18:26.07).
