Lancers Open the Season at UC Santa Barbara Winter Invite

RIVERSIDE – California Baptist University women's water polo opened the 2022 season at the UC Santa Barbara Winter Invite on Friday, with a pair of top-20 games against 11th-ranked Indiana and No. 19 Princeton.
True freshman Cayleigh Carter opens the season as CBU's leading scorer after she scored in both games, with two goals versus Princeton and another on Indiana. Jamie Hutton also ends day one of the season with three points – all on assists.
Madison Gerg put together a standout game in the cage in Friday's opener against the Hoosiers, as she had nine saves and two steals. Indiana won the game 13-2, with Carter and Taylor Frandsen scoring the first two goals of the season for CBU.
Carter and Maddie Schwegler both scored a pair of goals in an 18-9 loss to Princeton to end the day. Hutton scored, had two assists and a drawn ejection in the game, while Morgan Baker, Vicky Martinez (two drawn ejections), Kira O'Donell (two drawn ejections) and Celeste Almendariz all scored, as well.
California Baptist will play two more games on Saturday against No. 16 San Jose State and third-ranked UCLA at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., respectively. CBU is 0-2 to start the year, while IU and Princeton are 1-0.
