
Water Polo Battles UC Irvine In Midweek Showdown

IRVINE – The 16th-ranked California Baptist University men's water polo squad faced No. 9 UC Irvine for the second time in two weeks, leading late but eventually succumbing to the Anteaters by a score of 12-11. The Lancers' record moves to 16-9 on the season, while the Anteaters now stand at 10-8.
The Lancers led at the half, 8-6, behind a pair of goals from Matt Olsen and Caleb Teraoka. UCI would level the match by the end of the third period at 10-10, setting up a nail-biting final frame.
CBU struck first as Angel Sanchez found the back of the net just two minutes into the frame, but UCI would score two unanswered goals to take the lead. A defensive battle ensued for the final three-and-a-half minutes as neither team could break through after the 'Eaters made the score 12-11.
Teraoka would finish the game with a hat trick and a pair of assists. Olsen and Cameron Cullen each posted a pair of goals, with Cullen adding an assist to his stat line. Thomas de Wit continued his record run with two more assists, pushing his consecutive games with an assist streak to 26-straight.
CBU will be back in action tomorrow, making up a postponed game against the University of Redlands. Originally meant to be played on Sept. 11 but pushed back due to inclement weather, tomorrow's match will start at 4 p.m. at the Thompson Aquatic Center in Redlands.
