Armstrong Named to Lou Henson National Player of the Year Watchlist

BOSTON - California Baptist University's sophomore point guard Taran Armstrong was included on Wednesday's CollegeInsider.com's Lou Henson National Player of the Year Award watch list announcement. Armstrong is one of just ten guards in the nation currently averaging at least 16 points, four assists, and five rebounds per game, and the only underclassman on that list.
Armstrong is the reigning WAC Freshman of the Year after a debut season where his averages put him in rare company with the likes of Ja Morant, Lonzo Ball, and Magic Johnson. He led the Lancers to their first-ever Division I postseason win at the WAC Tournament, topping UTRGV 81-80 in Las Vegas.
Armstrong has improved as a scorer this season so far, increasing his season average to 16.0 points per game in 2022-23, up from 10.5 last season. That average was helped tremendously in an all-time effort in CBU's milestone victory over Washington last week, where he scored 18 points to guide CBU to its first win over a Power 5 opponent in program history. He followed that up with another stellar performance against Minnesota, dropping a game-high 24 points against the Big Ten foe.
