CBU Competes in Reno, Acciardi Finishes Fourth

RENO--- The Lancers competed in the Reno Tournament of Champions, marking their third tournament of the season. California Baptist University wrestled twelve student-athletes and finished seventh in a crowded field, including #24 Michigan State, Wyoming, Stanford, and #13 Oklahoma State.
11 of the 12 Lancers won their opening match in the tournament, with both Hunter Leake and Peter Acciardi winning multiple rounds in the Championship bracket. Acciardi reached the semifinals in the 184-pound weight class before succumbing in a major decision to Gavin Stika of Oklahoma State. Acciardi placed fourth in his weight class after falling to #10 Layne Malczewski of Michigan State University via forefeit in the third-place match, which was the best placement of any Lancer on the day.
Seven wrestlers won matches in the consolation bracket, with Yoshiya Funakoshi and Joseph Mora winning multiple in the 133 and 157-pound weight classes, respectively.
Next, the Lancers will face Northern Illinois and South Dakota State on January 7 at 4:30 and 7 p.m.
