RIVERSIDE – In the final non-conference game of the season, California Baptist University women's basketball went into the holiday break on a high note, defeating the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers in Riverside 69-61.
Leading the Lancers was freshman guard Filipa Barros who scored a career-high 24 points on an efficient 8-13 shooting, another career-best with two blocks, and matched career highs in rebounds (four) and assists (four). Nine of her points came in the fourth quarter when the Lady Toppers were mounting a late comeback.

Dorcas Wu showed up big in another way. She posted nine points, including two timely three-pointers, but grabbed a career-high 20 rebounds for the Lancers during the contest. She tops Chloe Webb's single-game mark this season which Webb had just set last game at Cal State Fullerton at 18. Wu now leads the team in rebounding at 7.5 per game, which puts her in the top three in the Western Athletic Conference.
Nae Nae Calhoun filled up the stat sheet from end-to-end, scoring 12 points with four boards, four assists, and three steals. Grace Schmidt was the final Lancer in double-figures, pouring in 14 points on a 70 percent clip from the field with eight rebounds and a block.

The Toppers led early, but the Lancers used an 8-0 in the first quarter to take a five-point lead before the teams closed the frame tied at 14. The second quarter consisted of three runs, the first from CBU, who opened the period with a 6-0 run. The Lady Toppers answered with 10 of their own to take a four-point lead before CBU closed out the first half with nine straight points to go into the break with a five-point advantage.
The Lancers hit 5-of-11 three-pointers in the third quarter to build their most significant lead of the afternoon, topping out at a 15-point advantage. WKU showed grit in the fourth, clawing all the way back to take a two-point lead with four minutes left to play, but Barros would score eight of CBU's 12 points after losing the lead to guide the home team back to victory.
Christmas break will offer a short reprieve to the Lancers before turning their attention to the first WAC contest of the year. UT Arlington comes to Riverside for the first-ever meeting between these two programs on any level to see who starts the conference season in the win column. That game is set for Thursday, December 29, at 6:00 p.m. in the CBU Events Center.
