RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist University women's basketball season will open its 2026-27 campaign on the road this week as they travel to Corvallis, Oregon, and St. George, Utah, for non-conference matches.
The Lancers will be making their Big West debut this season after competing the last eight seasons in the Western Athletic Conference. CBU is also coming off an NCAA Tournament berth for the second time in program history after they won both the WAC Regular Season and Tournament Titles en route to March Madness.
CBU's season will begin on Wednesday evening as they make the trek up to Corvallis, Oregon, to take on the Oregon State Beavers. The Lancers will face the Beavers for the second time in program history, with their first matchup coming in 2021, when the Beavers were ranked #15 in the nation. Oregon State, now back in the revitalized Pac-12, is coming off a 23-win season just like the Lancers. The Beavers fell in the WCC Tournament Championship game a season ago and made it to the opening round of the WBIT. This year, the Beavers were picked to finish second to Gonzaga in the Pac-12 and are led by reigning WCC Defensive Player of the Year Kennedie Shuler.
The back half of the road trip will be an old rivalry game for the Lancers as they will head to St. George, Utah, to face the Utah Tech Trailblazers. CBU and Utah Tech spent the last five seasons as WAC foes and, before that, spent seven seasons as PacWest rivals in both teams' DII eras. The Lancers and Trailblazers will be playing their 28th game against one another, with the Lancers holding a decisive edge at 23-4. CBU has not lost to Utah Tech since February of 2022 and has not lost in St. George since January of 2023. Last season, the Lancers swept the season series 3-0 over the Trailblazers, including a pair of wins at Burns Arena. Utah Tech, now a Big Sky member, was picked last in the preseason coaches' poll and will be led by new Head Coach Adam Wardenburg.
The Lancers will likely rely heavily on their star sophomore, Lauren Olsen, who is the reigning WAC Freshman of the Year and an All-WAC First Teamer, and who led CBU in scoring at nearly 15 per contest. Olsen is joined by four other Lancer returners, including Reyleigh Hess and Sofia Alonso, as well as talented transfers in Chloe Briggs and McKinley Willardson. Head Coach Jarrod Olson enters his 15th season at the helm of the program, having accumulated over 300 wins during his tenure thus far.
