TEMPE – The third day of the Kajikawa Classic showed a truer version of the Lancers, who battled one of the top teams in the nation early, and was finally able to put it all together for the first win of 2022 in the afternoon. California Baptist softball now sits at 1-3 on the season with one more game left in Tempe before heading back to Riverside.
VS OKLAHOMA STATE
CBU and #2/5 Oklahoma State remained scoreless until the third inning of their early morning matchup before the Cowgirls struck first on a sacrifice fly. The Lancers would respond in the next frame as a Cowgirl error in a bases-loaded situation leveled the game at one-all.
OSU would score again in the top of the fourth, but the Lancer defense would flex its muscles in the second half of the game to keep the game interesting. Freshman Karmyna Becerra would own the hot corner in the top of the fifth with one out, snagging a rocket down the left field line for the line out and tagging third before the Cowgirl baserunner could make it back, ending the inning and ending a bases-loaded jam for relief pitcher Jazmine Castaneda.
Starting pitcher Alyssa Argomaniz went 4.1 innings and allowed seven hits, but just two earned runs. Castaneda closed out the final 2.2 innings for CBU, also striking out one and allowing one earned.
VS MISSOURI STATE
The Lancer bats finally came to life in the afternoon game as CBU plated six runs in the top of the first on their way to a comfortable 8-2 victory. Scoring was initiated by Makayla Jordan's first home run of the season, a three-run blast to left center that brought in Katelyn Mangrello and Raegan Cheyne.

Maile Olsen earned an RBI when her two-out double was enough to easily bring in Michaila Harrington from third. Olsen later scored a run off Mia Alvarez's single to right. Scoring was capped when leadoff hitter Priscilla Estrada recorded her second single of the frame, scoring Alvarez from second.
The Bears got one back in the bottom of the fourth, but Samantha Demyon responded immediately in the top of the fifth with a two-out, solo home run, her first as a Lancer. CBU would tack on one more unearned run in the top of the sixth to go up 8-1.

Lancer starter Jazmine Castaneda was sharp in her third appearance and second start of the tournament. Castaneda took a no-hitter into the fifth inning, ultimately allowing just one hit to 25 batters faced, striking out four Bears who would score just one earned run. MSU, on the other hand, would be forced cycle through four pitchers in just the first inning alone.
