Softball Closes Out Kajikawa Classic against Utah

TEMPE – The Kajikawa Classic came to a close on Sunday with one more Power Five battle for California Baptist University softball, this time with Utah taking the win by a score of 11-1.
The Lancers fall to 1-4 on opening weekend after a tough schedule pitted them against three top-21 teams, another Pac-12 foe while defeating a Missouri State team that went 16-6 a year ago in the Missouri Valley Conference.
The Lancers hung with the Utes to open the game, but Utah made the most of their runners by stealing a total of nine bases during the game, pressing the action and building a lead quickly in the middle frames.
Katelyn Mangrello led the Lancers offensively on Sunday, going 2-2 with a double, with Makayla Jordan making the scoring swing on an RBI single that brought home pinch runner Molly Kolander from second. Starting catcher Brooke Piazza also got into the hit column today with a second inning single.

The Lancers return to the Inland Empire for a single game against UC Riverside at Amy S. Harrison Stadium on the campus of UCR. Game time for the Crosstown Showdown is set for 2 p.m. on Wednesday, February 16.
